What I hope we pass forward.

Capability, judgment, and the chance to make a contribution that matters to someone else.

Todd Beetcher

I think a lot about what lets a person become capable, confident, and able to contribute. Raising two daughters, showing up for teams, and learning alongside other people have made that concern personal.

Give people something real to do.

The idea that connects much of my writing is recognized contribution: someone does something useful, another person benefits, and that person’s effort is seen. I believe those experiences can help someone want to participate again.

It is a reason I want learning to produce something beyond a completed exercise: a letter somebody receives, a meal people share, a website somebody can use, or a work problem that gets a little better.

Keep the human thinking.

AI can extend what someone can do. It also makes it easier to receive an answer without developing a judgment of your own. My writing asks how we might make room for sustained thought and help people remain the authors of their decisions.

Different ways into the question.

The essays set out my perspective and questions about contribution and development. They are arguments to examine, not a validated formula for a child’s future or a claim of measured workplace results.
